Guest posting

The past days two posts have been published on other blogs, based on my experience and knowledge available on El Canasto.

Last Saturday, I wrote an entry on What's The Next Action called On-line GTD with Nozbe and Google Calendar, in which I explain how two on-line services can be used together as a complete productivity tool.

And yesterday my second guest post (which I wrote some weeks ago) was published on GTD Experiences. The post is called Getting GTD Done, and gives nine tips that in my experience help when implementing the GTD method. This last post is also available in Spanish on El Canasto.

Now it is time again to write on my own blogs...

My killer GTD setup

Home officeMost of you know that I also write in Spanish on my other weblog El Canasto, and you might even have visited it to see what it looks like. I just remembered that two months ago I published an entry in both Spanish and English, participating in a meme about my 'killer' GTD set-up. Basically I describe how I work and what productivity tools I use. If you're interested, just head over to My Killer GTD Setup, which might also help you learn a little bit of Spanish as the translation is right next to it.

Confusing

From the Twitter Support page:

Delete: use delete to remove a person from your friends list, like so: delete jade.
Remove: this command will delete a person from your friends list: remove jade.

So if I want to delete a person I have to use the Remove command, and if I want to remove a person I have to use Delete?????

Twitter

A little bit more than one month ago, I started a new weblog called 'El Canasto' in which I write about 'Getting Things Done and personal productivity.

Until now I have written 28 posts meaning that I have been able to keep up with my initial schedule of at least one post every two days. I found it easy to find new material, and usually have about 10 posts in he pipeline.

The people have received the new blog very well. I have received 30 comments/trackbacks. Quite some bloggers have found my blog and have reposted or linked to my articles. The most popular post is my translation of David Seah's compact calendar for 2007 with 2850 unique views. At this moment I am receiving about 200-400 visitors per day.

So far it has been a very positive experience for me. Even though it costs me a little bit more time to write in Spanish, I enjoy using this language and already learned some more. Of course I tell my visitors that I am not a native speaker, and hope they are willing to forgive my errors.

A new weblog

Today I published the first entry on a new weblog: El Canasto. El Canasto is my first blog in Spanish and has been created for two reasons. The first reason is that I have found very little material in Spanish about lifehacks and Getting Things Done -- one of the topics I like to read about. There is clearly something missing in the Spanish weblog spectrum. The second reason is that I really want to improve my Spanish language skills, but don't have the discipline to sit down and study. However, writing about stuff I like might give me the drive to learn more.

To set up El Canasto I used WordPress and the minimalistic Cutline theme. I spent some days making sure every word in the template has been translated correctly into Spanish, and have many plans more for optimizing the look & feel of this new site. But for the moment, it is more important to get rolling, so I published a first little entry. My plan is to maintain a higher posting frequency than on this blog or the Wizard of POS as I have much material and a lot of ideas for this blog.

For now I would like all my readers to have a look at El Canasto.

Amazon aStore

Amazon.com launched a new affiliate tool this week called aStore. This tool allows you to create your own themed Amazon store and embed the store on your web site. The tool is very easy to use and allows you to create a site complete with product reviews and full product descriptions. They have even added some widgets that automatically display lists and similar items. There have always been ways to display lots of Amazon content on your web site, but this is a much more robust and easy to implement option.

Of course I could not resist playing around with it, so I created my own little store and filled it with products related to David Allen's Getting Things Done productivity methodology: books, labelers, moleskine notebooks, PDA's...

I am planning to embed the aStore in my new GTD related weblog, but until that I will only publish an ungly Amazon aSTore link to my Getting Things Done on-line shop.

Spam discarded

In the last 12 months I haven't found a single false positive in the spam folder of my mailbox. I still receive some false negatives, but that doesn't bother me. No false positives means that I am able to change my processing workflow. Until now, all spam ended up in the spam folder, which I checked for false positives once a week. Today I changed my mail configuration to discard all messages flagged as spam. This saves me about 15 minutes of work every week!

Almost there

One week ago I received my new mobile camera-phone. I was happy, since I wanted to use it for publishing photo's on Flickr. How disappointed I was when I found out that Amena had delivered me a half configured phone. No international roaming, GPRS, MMS or e-mail configured. :-( In short, my wonderful multimedia phone was delivered with all the multimedia functions disabled.

Now one week later, I have managed to get GPRS activated ---I have to pay activation costs!--- which also made MMS active. After talking 5 minutes with customer support they also told me that they have activated roaming, so the next time I go abroad I can call home. In theory, everything should be alright now, but... somehow I still can't send nor receive e-mail. And that is exactly the feature I want most!!!

To be continued...

Chicken

The year of the rooster has officially begun. I wish everybody all the best and a lot of love in this year. May all your wishes come through!!!

Skype

I just installed Skype on my PC to have a look at it, but really wonder what it adds. I am already available through ICQ, MSN, AIM, Yahoo and IRC, and most of these services also support audio chats with reasonable quality. In my opinion Skype is just another IM client. I don't want to have yet another client, I only want that the existing clients work together. Of course, I don't have five applications running --- I use Trillian---, but it does open five network connections over different ports.

For the moment, you can Skype me at icg-jeroen. If I find it useful, I will keep on using it.
